My Podcasting Journey: From Passion to Connection

My journey into podcasting began with a deep-rooted love for understanding people and their stories. I’ve always been the type to ask questions, eager to uncover the reality behind emotions and experiences. Graduating with a degree in mass media, specializing in radio and television and minoring in journalism, opened my eyes to the profound impact media can have. I realized how easily stories can be misrepresented or overlooked, leaving many voices unheard.

Despite my aspirations of becoming a TV presenter, I found my footing as a producer and director, gaining invaluable insights into storytelling from behind the scenes. This perspective fuelled my desire to connect with people on a deeper level, which ultimately led me to create my own podcast: Sandy Station and Open Mic by Sandy Fakhoury

The Seed of an Idea

This journey didn’t begin with a grand vision. It sparked from a simple need to connect and explore the stories that often go untold. I craved more than just the headlines; I wanted to delve into the lives of those we admire from a distance and those whose struggles are hidden from view. Thus, Sandy Station and Open Mic were born, each offering a unique lens on life’s complexities.

Sandy Station: More Than Fame

With Sandy Station, my goal was to uncover the human stories behind fame. Every public figure has a narrative often obscured by their celebrity status. I’ve had the honor of engaging with celebrities and influencers not to discuss their accolades, but to explore their personal journeys. One conversation that stands out is with “Soraya Shawky, where we discussed her feelings towards the miscarriage she had and how she went through her divorce. It was in that moment I saw their vulnerability and strength, a reminder that fame does not shield anyone from life’s challenges.

These heart-to-heart conversations foster deep connections, both with my guests and the listeners who may feel isolated in their struggles. Sandy Station creates a space where we can talk openly and authentically.

Open Mic: Voices That Matter

While Sandy Station shines a light on public figures, Open Mic amplifies the stories of everyday people and includes insights from experts in various fields. I believe that some of the most powerful narratives come from those who live outside the limelight—individuals who have faced tremendous hardships yet continue to persevere.

In one memorable episode, I spoke with “Emily Ray” the mother of a child who has Angelman Syndrome. She shared an incredible story of resilience. Their journey wasn’t about fame or recognition; it was about survival and thriving against the odds. That conversation left me humbled, a powerful reminder of the strength inherent in every individual.

Additionally, I’ve had the privilege of hosting experts in areas like business and psychology. These conversations allow us to dive into important topics that affect our everyday lives, offering listeners valuable insights and actionable advice. For instance, when I spoke with “Dr. Abla Morgan” about “Postponing Happiness Syndrome”, it not only broadened our understanding but also equipped listeners with tools to navigate their own challenges. By merging personal stories with expert knowledge, Open Mic creates a rich tapestry of discussion that resonates on multiple levels, fostering a deeper connection with our audience.

The Struggles Behind the Mic

Podcasting might seem glamorous, but I quickly learned that the real work happens behind the scenes. From mastering the technical aspects of recording and editing to preparing emotionally for each interview, the process can be daunting. After recording an episode, we enter a lengthy editing phase to ensure we capture and deliver the message as it was intended. It’s crucial to select the right clips that will resonate with our audience and effectively convey the heart of each conversation.

I often find myself grappling with decisions about which moments to highlight, knowing that these choices can significantly impact how the story is received. I also worry: What if I didn’t ask the right questions? What if I couldn’t create a safe space for my guests?

However, I’ve learned that vulnerability is a strength. It’s what allows our conversations to resonate deeply, enabling us to explore beyond the surface. Each time I sit down with a guest, I remind myself that it’s not about perfection—it’s about connection.

Building a Community, One Listener at a Time

When I first launched my podcast, my audience was small—friends, family, and a few curious listeners. As I shared more stories, I was amazed to see a community begin to form. People started to engage, sharing their experiences and feeling like they were part of something bigger. Watching the community around Sandy Station and Open Mic grow organically has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my journey.

Navigating social media has proven to be quite tricky, as each platform like YouTube, Facebook, Instagram or TikTok requires a unique approach to effectively reach the right audience. Understanding these nuances and tailoring our content accordingly has been a significant challenge at times. However, I believe the effort is worthwhile. Every comment or message from a listener saying, “That story resonated with me,” reinforces why I started this in the first place and reminds me that getting the best stories to the right people is what truly matters.

A Journey That’s Just Beginning

Podcasting has opened up a world where stories matter, where connections flourish, and every voice holds value. Through Sandy Station and Open Mic, I’ve explored the human experience in ways I never thought possible, and I’m only just getting started.

If there’s one lesson I’ve learned, it’s that every story, big or small, has the power to change lives. I invite you to listen, engage, and share your own story—because your voice deserves to be heard too.
